What Is IRC?

International Medical Rehabilitation Center for the Victims of Wars and Totalitarian Regimes (IRC) is a public Charity Fund which aims to provide medical, psychological, social and legal rehabilitation assistance to individuals who became victims of torture or other brutal violations of fundamental human rights and members of their families.

RC has the license of the Ministry for Health Protection as of 03.03.04, granting the right to conduct medical practice. IRC has been working since 1993.

Objectives

The primary objective of IRC is to offer practical assistance (medical, psychological, social and informational) to persons who have previously been subjected to political repression and torture. IRC was established to render rehabilitative help to victims of torture or other serious violations of fundamental human rights, and their families. IRC performs the following functions:

  • Render rehabilitative help to those who have suffered torture and abuse as a result of war, ethnic clashes, totalitarian regimes or other serious violations of fundamental human rights, and their families.
  • Instruct Ukrainian and foreign medical personnel in the examination and treatment of these persons.
  • Disseminate information concerning methods of torture and the rehabilitation of those who suffer.
  • Provide medical examinations and diagnoses, as well as psychological, legal and other advisory help to IRC clients.
  • Investigate the consequences of torture.
  • Engage in publishing and other activities related to the scientific and practical interests of IRC.
  • Contribute to the prevention of torture.
