The IRC focused on the following target groups in 2006:

The individuals who recently suffered from torture and mistreatment during their detention in police departments.

21 years old, male

Life and illness history. He was arrested and convicted of taking drugs. During investigation he was bound to radiator with handcuffs and beaten to find his confession. A skin of radiocarpal joints area was scratched by handcuffs. His parents were unaware where their sun is during three days.

Examination. He is periodically depressed and touchy and suffers from pains in internal (iliac and epigastric areas).

Rehabilitation. As his attorney had advised, he was consulted in IRC. He supervised by therapeutist and has psychotherapy.

Results. Physical and psychic states improvement is observed. Other medical assistance and family therapy are planned. He has continual assistance of psychologist.

 

31 year-old, male

Life and illness history. Under the faked-up evidence against him were illegally instituted criminal proceedings. During a preliminary investigation he was subjected to torture - he was suspended by his hands on iron pinchbar, put on his head a plastic package and gas mask, tightened the handcuffs on his hands, he was beaten.

Examination. After all these events he has spent some months in a hospital. His lawyer directed him to IRC.

Rehabilitation. Medical observation of therapist-cardiologist, consultations with neuropathologist, massage, providing him with medicines, individual work with the psychologist, including expert-psychological examination within the framework of legal protection of the patient.

Results. Have disappeared internal constraint and feeling of isolation from human environment, the feeling of dignity and self-respect has increased. Now he works actively.

 

38 year-old, male

Life and illness history.He is registered in a psychiatric dispensary as schizophrenic patient, but without regard to this fact, during a preliminary investigation he was subjected to torture - he was suspended by his hands between two special chairs, put on his head a gas mask and kept him in this state as long as the blood has not rushed from his ears. He was put into special punishment cell. His hands have stopped to functionate (he couldn't hold even a spoon in his hands), because of this he was forced to lap up the food like a dog when he was in the prison cell, causing laugh of his cellmates. Has made a suicidal attempt. He was directed to forensic-psychiatric examination, 1 month he spent in psychiatric hospital.

Examination. He became intense and excitable. His sleep was broken. Has appeared an internal nervous tremor of his body, fine trembling of his hands and legs during excitement, distrust to other people (parents), rage, insularity.

Rehabilitation. Consultations with psychiatrist, neuropathologist, therapist-cardiologist, massage, providing him with medicines, individual work with the psychologist, including supporting psychotherapy and consultation support for the members of his family.

Results. The internal pressure has decreased, has appeared orientation on dialogue. His sleep and appetite were improved; he started to communicate more actively. The relations with his parents were stabilized.
